Aramco Asia, HKUST celebrate second cohort of MBA graduates

Hong Kong — The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently hosted a grand celebration awarding master’s in business administration (MBA) degrees to the second cohort of Saudi Aramco employees.

A total of 41 graduates from various business lines in Saudi Aramco accomplished their studies after two years of hard work. They came from not only core business sectors of exploration and production, but also from other disciplines such as engineering, IT, chemicals, human resources, and internal auditing.

Initiated seven years ago, the program has now become one of the top 15 MBA programs worldwide and been recognized as the best in Asia six times. One of its most important objectives is to provide leadership and management training to outstanding employees with high potential, to develop their global mindset and to prepare them to think and act globally.

On behalf of Aramco Asia, Faisal Z. Alireza, vice president of Human Resources, and Faisal Al Othman, academic program manager, attended the ceremony and sent cordial congratulations to the graduates.

“Education is a vital component of our efforts to transition to a knowledge economy. At Saudi Aramco, we concentrate our efforts on developing the next generation of highly skilled professionals by focusing on leadership and business acumen,” said Alireza.

“It also supports the achievement of Saudi Aramco’s strategic imperative of preparing the workforce for the future and developing leaders with business acumen companywide,” he added. “This is a great achievement that comes with greater responsibility as the expectation for future Saudi Aramco leaders are high. Now you are equipped with the necessary competencies to lead to operational success and excellence.”

The graduates, brimming with confidence, are well educated and ready to utilize their unique talents in innovation and technology. They will soon start their journey of excellence in their specialized areas either at the headquarters in Saudi Arabia or in subsidiaries around the globe.

“This is a very special evening for our graduates,” said professor Steven J. DeKrey, associate dean of HKUST School of Business and Management and director of the HKUST MBA Program in Saudi Arabia. “A definite lifetime milestone as you have successfully completed two grueling, and sometimes fun, years of MBA coursework at one of the world leading institutions. You should all be very proud of yourselves and realize that we are all very proud of you.”

The program was modeled as a Saudi Aramco Hosted University Program under the University Relations Division at Saudi Aramco.

The general framework agreement between Saudi Aramco and HKUST was signed to set forth the strategic relationship in the areas of education and scientific research. The cooperation blended the complementary strengths of the parties in meeting their educational and research interests, serving as a model of academic industrial collaboration.
