Discover Aramco’s lower-carbon-intensity crude
Research indicates the upstream carbon intensity of each barrel of Aramco crude is 50 to 70 % lower than the industry average. This provides downstream petrochemical companies with a high-quality, low-carbon feedstock foundation.
In parallel, Aramco’s innovative Crude Oil-to-Chemicals (COTC) technology enables a 20–30% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional refining and chemical conversion processes—offering a greener path to extend the petrochemical value chain and enhance the low-carbon competitiveness of petrochemical products in global markets.
Aramco is also taking a forward-looking approach to carbon capture and storage (CCS), injecting CO₂ into geological formations to enhance oil recovery (CO₂-EOR), while advancing the production of blue hydrogen and blue ammonia at multiple sites—paving the way for a lower-carbon future across the crude-to-chemicals spectrum.
Lower carbon intensity at the start means every product in downstream — fuels, chemicals, polymers —could also start with a lower-carbon footprint.
The choices we make for raw materials today, could define tomorrow’s emissions.
If they all started with Aramco’s lower-carbon intensity crude we would all be one step closer to a net-zero future.
