Crude oil

Products and services

Saudi Aramco has built a reputation for unmatched reliability in supplying crude oil to energy markets around the world.

Saudi Aramco began producing commercial quantities of crude oil in 1938. Since then we have built a reputation for unmatched reliability in supplying crude oil to energy markets around the world. Today, this essential energy source remains at the core of Saudi Aramco's business.

Over 80 years of access to largely conventional petroleum reserves, combined with the application of leading industry and proprietary technologies, gives Saudi Aramco the ability to consistently drive high value at low cost and to operate efficiently across high demand product segments.

Saudi Aramco produces five different grades of crude oil. These are: Arabian Heavy, Arabian Medium, Arabian Light, Arabian Extra Light, and Arabian Super Light. This gives Saudi Aramco the flexibility, guided by our outlook and assessment of future refinery requirements in its markets, to optimize its crude oil production mix to always meet our customer's needs. And Saudi Aramco continues to invest in upstream capabilities to ensure it can meet rising demand, well into the future.

Saudi Aramco derives additional value from its crude oil by using it to create and bring to market new products such as chemicals, base oils, and finished lubricants. Looking ahead, Saudi Aramco is leading research into converting crude oil directly to chemicals, or to hydrogen as the possible energy source of choice for the future.
Capitalizing on the size and quality of its reserves, its expertise in exploration and recovery, and its state-of-the-art, integrated upstream and downstream network, Saudi Aramco is redefining the benchmark for global energy production.

China Marketing

Aramco's office in Beijing serves as a bridge between Saudi Aramco and the fast growing Asian market. It supports the marketing and operational activities of the parent company and helps explore new business opportunities.

Saudi Aramco has a long-standing and great relationship with China. Saudi Aramco has supplied China with crude oil since 1991 when a Chinese National Oil Company (NOC) bought its first cargo. For almost three decades, energy cooperation between Saudi Aramco and China has evolved and strengthened, proving our reliability in supply and operations. The company now supplies close to 1.8 million barrels a day (90 million tons) of crude oil to China and counts all NOCs and the largest private players among its customer family. As the custodian of one of the world's largest oil reserves, Saudi Aramco will continue to be a trusted crude oil supplier and partner to China.
