Hao Peng, secretary of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of People's Congress of Liaoning province, met with Aramco Asia President Saleh Y. Al-Zaid in Shenyang, Liaoning province on September 25, on the sidelines of the 5th China Liaoning International Fair for Investment and Trade.
Hao extended his welcome to the Aramco Asia delegation led by Mr. Zaid.
He noted the China-Saudi friendship goes back to ancient times and is growing even stronger. During President Xi's state visit to Saudi Arabia in December 2022, the two heads of state signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the two countries, opening a new era for bilateral cooperation.
Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, exchanges and cooperation between Liaoning and Saudi Arabia have borne fruitful results. Liaoning is building a trillion-yuan petrochemical and fine chemicals base, and Aramco is one of the largest oil companies in the world. Both parties have comparative advantages and there is broad scope for cooperation.
In March last year, the HAPCO project, with a total investment of 83.7 billion yuan, commenced construction in Panjin. When completed, it will inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the petrochemical and fine chemical industries in Liaoning. It will also play a positive role in Aramco’s investments across the value chain and the diversification of its business.
Hao hoped that Aramco will find more business opportunities through the Fair and expand investment and cooperation in Liaoning in fields such as science, technology and industry for win-win results, so as to further contribute to the continued development of the China-Saudi comprehensive strategic partnership.
Mr. Zaid thanked the governments of Liaoning and Panjin for their strong support to the HAPCO project and congratulated Liaoning for its significant achievements in economic and social development.
He noted the HAPCO project is Aramco's largest investment in China and is of great importance to the company's overall strategy. Aramco will fully support the construction of the project. Leveraging the Fair, Aramco will deepen and expand the cooperation with Liaoning in various fields such as research and development and operations along the industrial chain, to support the revitalization of Liaoning.
Executives of Aramco Asia, and Wang Jian, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee and deputy governor, also attended the meeting.
