The Aramco Asia Beijing Research Center and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists jointly hosted a technical forum recently at the China University of Geosciences discussing new concepts and innovative thinking concerning geophysical challenges.
The forum is regarded as a call to action to science, technology, and innovation professionals in making a greater contribution to global geophysical advancement. Through the forum, talented professionals shared best practices, learned from each other, and made new connections.
Since establishment in 2015, the Beijing center has been committed to promoting leading-edge technology for a better future and a long-lasting prosperity for the industry. This one-day event attracted about 200 scientists, researchers, and professionals from academia and the oil and gas industry, providing an intellectual platform for technical connection, knowledge sharing, and innovative thinking in the field of geophysics.
Dr. Han Ming, acting director at the center, extended a warm welcome to the participants. “I see a very bright but challenging future ahead of us. I am confident that the ideas circulated in this forum will serve as an impetus for technology advancements and cutting-edge solutions,” he said.
Knowledge sharing
Five scientists from both the Beijing Research Center and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, China Academy of Sciences, introduced their latest research findings to the audiences. The presentations covered a variety of topics ranging from challenges in oil and gas exploration in China, full travel time inversion, imaging diffractors using wave-equation migration, and advancements in computational geophysics in China, to fast plane wave reverse time migration and source-domain early arrival tomography.
The innovative concepts presented at the forum provided new and ingenious ways of enhancing geophysical achievement. Strengthening and sharing expertise will ensure that a positive and lasting legacy will be left to the industry.
All participants were also invited for a tour of the Beijing Research Center facilities, where they were briefed by Chinese researchers on the latest research projects carried out at the center.
