SAP and Aramco explore solutions for lower carbon energy development

On November 8, 2023, SAP announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aramco China to further deepen the deployment of cloud-based digital services on the sidelines of the China International Import Expo. The strategic collaboration with SAP is another step in Aramco’s digital transformation journey, paving the way for further integration of new technologies in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Under the MOU, SAP will support Aramco China in transitioning smoothly to cloud-based operations, enabling agile and efficient cross-regional and cross-border management. This collaboration also aims to support Aramco China’s initiatives and support a new paradigm for lower carbon development in the energy industry.

Mushabab Al Qahtani, Aramco Asia China Country Manager, noted, “At Aramco, we are working on providing innovative solutions to contribute to the global energy transition, and promoting development of alternative energy sources. We are excited to further enhance our collaboration with SAP. With their advanced cloud-based digital solutions and industrial expertise, we can respond to market demands swiftly, providing our customers with secure and affordable energy, and contribute to high-quality development in China.”

Dr. Chenhong Huang, Global Executive Vice President and President of SAP Greater China, noted, “The energy industry is crucial for societal development. With the rise of the digital economy, the industry faces new trends in building a lower carbon, safe, and efficient energy system. We are thrilled to cooperate with Aramco China. We will support them with a cloud-based digital operation system, continuously driving their digital transformation, and achieving enhanced development supporting the lower carbon transformation of the Chinese energy industry.”

Aramco China plans to move its existing ERP system to the SAP S/4HANA Cloud. This move will help transform its business operations, streamline management, optimize processes, reduce costs, align with the IT framework of its Asia-Pacific headquarters and integrate seamlessly with Aramco's global strategy.

Additionally, by deploying the SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Concur, Aramco China will establish a dual-layer system for comprehensive business management. This will enable real-time monitoring of their workforce, finances, and operations. Aramco can receive support for cross-regional, cross-border comprehensive business cooperation and collaboration, unleashing IT potential, and leading business innovation.
