Company volunteers from Aramco China recently paid a visit to Zhenhua School, a private school on the outskirt of Beijing, bringing fascinating interdisciplinary courses through STEAM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) to the disadvantaged students.

The STEAM-related education campaign is a part of company-wide efforts to promote volunteering activities. It is also considered as one crucial element of Aramco’s global initiative to mark the International Volunteer Day, which is celebrated on December 5 every year.

Through a variety of engaging activities, the campaign aims to support children from vulnerable families with company resources and ensure access to quality education for communities.

At the appreciation ceremony, Ashraf Alfagih, vice president of Public Affairs of Aramco Asia, noted, “We believe education remains a priority for their families. We hope our campaign could add value to 120 students in Zhenhua School, and we believe the best way for students to learn is through play as our volunteers have prepared a variety of engaging courses to share.”

The employee volunteers were divided into four groups, as per their expertise, to popularize STEAM knowledge and enhance scientific cognition among the students. Throughout the courses, there were Marshmallow Construction Challenge, a classic problem-solving exercise, introduction of the types of the rocks by one geologist from Beijing Research Center, a general presentation across the entire oil and gas value chain, and a unique Saudi culture orientation salon.

The courses sparked lively discussion and creative thinking among the students. The volunteers also organized two sessions of outdoor sports of basketball and rope skipping and provided them with ten sports packages.

The campaign has drawn positive feedback from the teachers, students and members of the community.  “We hope that through these activities, we can bring joy to the children while making them feel the warmth and care. We will carry forward our commitment to this notable cause and bring more tangible benefits to the those in need. We look forward to more similar programs in the future, “Alfagih concluded.
